Our "Golfwell", golf rehabilitation program, was originally developed several years ago by Mark Howard, PT, DPT, OCS as an injury prevention program. Over the years, it has evolved into a full-scale rehabilitation program for any golfer who has suffered an injury, or undegone a surgical procedure. Golfers who have undergone total hip or knee replacements are common participants.
Initial evaluations address both physical limitations and swing mechanics. Participants actually swing their own clubs under the supervision of the therapist. Digital photography and/or videotape is used to identify specific factors that may cause injury or negatively impact on golf performance. Participants are then provided with swing corrections and exercises to improve both strength and flexibility. It is important to understand that this is a rehabilitation and injury prevention program, not a golf lesson.
While many participants have reported hitting the ball better and farther, with reduced handicaps noted, the goal is to resume playing in a healthy manner. |
